Default Tippet Rings

Hi all,

I'm new to fly fishing and as you will appreciate, there is lots to learn. I am though, doing quite well on the Yorkshire rivers and still waters and have had some fantastic tuition from Stuart Minikin. However, I forgot to ask a simple question, which is;

What are tippet rings specifically designed for and what are their purpose!

Another question I have is, is fishing the New Zealand duo better than fishing a dry on the point and a Buzzer/Copper Head/Wet on a short dropper!

Tippet rings are used so when changeing fly your not cutting back into your tapered leader every time and only your tippet is reduced each time you change fly.

Better? No! Just different. With a dry on the point you will only ever get your dropper fly a few inches at most below the surface. When fishing the NZ duo it is possible to get down a couple of feet.

When fishing with a dry on the point I would avoid heavier flies like Copper Johns and stick to spiders and light wets on the dropper.
