Default Busbie Muir today

Hi all,

I'm just back in from a cracking day out with Humungus aka Woody, We got to the loch around 8:30am and were greeted with a howling wind blowing right into the dam wall, so we went off to one side of the dam wall, set up and started fishing. We had no action for at least an hour with Woody eagerly searching the shore trying to find the fish.

So we decided to try the top section of the res as there are some trees around and its a little easier to get a line out, i got in and waded to my knee's fishing my sixth sense sweep line and a uv black and green booby tied by my own fair hand and on the third cast as the fly hit the water, i retrieved the slack and was about to wait for the line to sink when my rod doubled over. The result was a nice 2lbish rainbow.

I went to cast again and lost my killer booby on a tree so i sat down to tie a new one one and Woody had moved to the top bank then on his first cast caught a lovely rainbow of around 2lbs followed by another 2 before i had even finished tying on my new fly!

Woody's fish:

The weather was really weird all day though, by the time we left it had completely switched directions however Woody managed his limit of three then released 6 and lost loads more most being caught on a 3D black and green rabbit ( i think ) and he also had one one a Pheasant tail nymph too and I had caught 1 and lost quite a few too.

All in all a great day and some good company, I cant wait till next time.

P.S sorry if the pie wasnt as good as cumbrian chris's and i'm sorry the pics are a little blurry.

Hiya P.S

The res is located on the B760 at Ardrossan heading towards Dalry. Its easily located on the bus, as the big blue double decker from killie to adrossan stops right outside the shop where you buy the day tickets (3 fish then C&R £12). then its a 30-40 minute walk to the res, or 5-10 mins in the car.

There's also another smaller res located on the right as you head to the busbie which is also fishable on your day ticket, however it is not stocked but there are a few wild brownies.

There's a competition at the busbie this sunday which is the North Ayrshire Cup, Its £5 for members and £15 for non members, fishing is 10 till 4 and its a 4 fish limit then C&R, the registration and weigh in is at the green bothy at the roadside near the dam.

This link is a map from the store in chapelhill mount to the reservoir, If you need any more info let me know

Thanks T1Viper.

I have drove past that water countless times and never knew anything about it.

Might give it a shot one of these days.

Nice one PS, i have just got my permit through so if you head up there let me know and i'll wet a line with you mate.

I was up last night with busbiegaz, we took a boat out on my first cast i had an offer an missed it then nothing else all night, the fish were slow at first them around 9pm they came on rising everywhere, some barley 2-3 feet from the boat, we tried everything, and i mean everything, we had dries, lures, nymphs and wets on, i even had a booby on for a wee while, but they just werent interested. there were around 6 anglers on the water and only 2 fish were taken.

Brilliant night and a good laugh ! cant wait for next time!!

aye cheers Fish8

my fish was missing a small bit off the top of his tail but it was well healed so i think it may have happened in the fish farm a while ago, and even with his small deformity he still gave me a good scrap, anytime he sensed that he was getting into the shallows he kept trying to dive and make for the reeds! that was the North ayrshire cup that i was fishing when i caught him, i think it was won with 4 fish for 10lb 9oz (or that was the heavist while i was there) i caught 2 for 3lb 3oz and was happy with that.

For a Club water it is kept in pristine condition, theres never rubbish as theres ample bins and picnic tables, you can also walk round it all without getting muddy as they have built raised walkways. work is always ongoing with regular working parties up there, which i will be trying to get involved with. I cant sing its praises high enough, but you really need to fish it to know what i mean

Some S**t hot fishing up the busbie today

i had 3 released 1 and lost another one in the net (it jumped out to freedom)

The sun was a bit bright and the east wind didnt help much either, but when the clouds blocked the sun the fish went crazy.

My bag was 8lbs 4oz, clueless turtle had a monster at 4lbs 9oz (taking 3 and returning one) and busbie gaz had another slab at 4lb 6oz.

All fish were taken on a size 12 techno cats, bar busbie gaz's the cat was deadly and still worked even after the red paint had came off the eyes.

Hi all,

Just a quick update to this thread, Myself and Busbie Gaz went up tonight and took a boat out for a few hours, the weather wasnt too bad at all, nice overcast sky a nice gentle breeze ( the windfarm was hardly moving) so we got setup and got the boat out, i had a couple of nocks but i couldnt get one, Gaz however managed one very nice blue trout of about 2lb, I think i tried every fly in my box from tradtionals like the black pennel and hares ear to blobs, different retrieves and even different lines but noting seemed to work for me tonight.

I really cant complain though coz the banter was great as always, and Gaz smoked the fish when we got back to his place, so it really was fresh smoked trout, absolutley fantastic!

The scenery up there isnt too bad either, however tonight there was a fog settling on the hills as we were leaving.

This is the windfarm, you can usually see at least 3-4 windmills

Cant wait to get back up there tomorrow and hunt out another fish for the smoker.
