Default Is Raygill any good?

Have seen a few posts about Raygill - dont know whether its any good as I have never been - have mostly gone to Swinsty/Fewston and done reasonably well there.

I get the impression (although mabybe I'm wrong) that its all about using crazy lures at Raygill and not imitating any natural insects - and some of the pics of the fish looked a bit ropey - one had its dorsal fin almost chewed off! Would you even eat any of the fish from there? or would you just catch and release?

Also does it get packed on a weekend around this time of year?

Interested in hearing your views

Cheers

Go and make your own mind up. You sign in and pay when you leave at £2ph. They usually round down to nearest half hour so it won't cost you much if it's not to your taste. Lot's of big fish in there, many are fry-feeders as they put in thousands of small fry every month so lures are worth a try but I've caught on buzzers, bloodworm, and missed takes on a Klink. I've seen a double fall to a Shipmans so dries are always worth considering.

It's true not all the fish a perfectly finned (not sure if it's stock-pen damage or a result of all the pike in there) but you are much less likely to end up with a bag of indenti-kit 2lb stockies than at any other fishery I have visited.
Wrap up warm though, the quarry seems to create it's micro-climate, a few degrees colder than it's surroundings.

lures will catch.... but then again you have to expect that for a stocked fishery. I've caught on buzzers and nymphs, and lures, both will catch. you dont have to be a distance caster, the fish are caught close in as the marginal shelf drops off quickly.

its a very scenic place to be, can be very windy so take a good windproof layer with you. trust me on that one...
