Carron Valley Reservoir today
Hi guys, fished here today with my mate for the first time, boy was it tough going. Due to unreliable wind reports we were advised only to fish the road shore and not venture farther out as the weather has been pretty wet and windy recently.
So, the back of nine my mate Willie and I headed out and up to the far end towards the dam wall, weather was not bad, slight wind across from the south west, pretty clear skies. Willie took a couple of wee browns to hoglice and a yellow dancer and I was having no joy with my cats whisker booby or my hare's ear.
The wind was rising a little and the rain started, but still bearable.
We started drifting into the little bays down the road shore and where possible down the bank. I changed to an intermediate line with my trusty Viva variant and a hares ear. Willie landed a rainbow on the yellow dancer and then a further two to a hoglice (i think) I changed my hares ear for a Leven Spider. I took one on my trusty Viva and the other on the Leven Spider.
By now the waves were getting up and the wind and rain was getting pretty bad, we tries fishing a couple of the bays as we worked our way back to the jetty but we were getting blown in almost as quick as we could retrieve after casting. We got to the jetty and decided to call it a day, we lasted till 2pm. All but three of the boats had done the same by now and another tow came in just after us.
One guy had landed a 15lb 2oz rainbow to a Soldier Palmer and it was a beauty of a fish, never seen one that big before and it was a belter!
So, soaked through we headed home and after a nice hot shower I am hoping my stuff all dries out for my trip to Linlithgow on saturday!
