Default Sweethope

Hi There,

I am fishing at Sweethope for the first time in two years.

I will be on a boat on the big lough.

I know the water pretty well but any up to date information on areas and tactics would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards

robbie

hi there, we were there on saturday, had 2 boats booked ,one boat had 2 fish in 8hrs, our boat got a pull each all day and no fish, fishing was terrible, but going by there website it has been fishing out of it's skin the last 2 weeks, on saturday it was real hard going, not many fish caught all day and all the boats were out, one bought caught 8 and they were using a coral blob on a hi d line,

hope this helps
tight lines.

Must have been doing something wrong, my Team captain & his mate had over 40 to the boat on the tuesday!

High percentage of them on dries!!!

Was there on Friday - the place is stuffed with fish.
As GC states you can't go far wrong with his mentioned flies and should also include some snatchers.
Only had a floater on all day.
Fish all over the lake.

Its a great place mate, dont let the wind dictate your fishing, especially on Sweethope, they will come up out of no-where.

My mate has a season ticket for Sweethope and he goes twice a week, he reckons the placed is chocker block with fish plus another big stocking went in at the beginning of the week.
He mainly uses the floating line and has a team of three small black flies as his main set up.
Try fishing down the left hand side where you will notice a fallen/broken tree, further down you will find a gap in the tree's, try this place as well.
If the wind is coming from left to right as you come out of the harbour bear right for about sixty yards as this is a good spot.
Further down the lake is a small island, this is where the brownies hang out and there is loads of them.

If the conditions are ok you will have a cracker of a time and the fish are of grand quality and real good scrappers.

Hope the above helps.

Just an after thought Robbie, if it is really really windy on your fishing day a quick phone call to Rob at Sweethope may save you a wasted journey. Sometimes the top lake can become unfishable in strong winds.

Hope this doesn't put you off but better safe than sorry.

All the very best
