Default Loch Earn

Hi Guys

Had a hard days tubing on Loch Earn today with my buddy 8 oC - 13 oC south west -ish winds light, mod, strong, over cast.

We both started off with slow glass lines and lures missed one bite, nowt after that my buddy missed a couple too.

After lunch switched to fast sink line and lures missed a couple of bites. Obviously the fish were well down, thought id try a booby as i dont really use them and nowt else was working so why not, "bang" rainbow on ! a game little 13" fit fish hard won and my first fish taken on a booby

A while later when i thought the rainbow was a fluke and i was going to take the booby off "bang" this time i was rewarded with a 16" 2lb brown trout, stockie yes but very welcome and dam hard won

Not sure how others have found Loch Earn early season but the fish certinally seemed well down today, i watched the ospreys all day never saw any swooping for fish. A hard day, a good day, learned alot too

8 deg to 13 deg...bet the water was nowhere near that! probably about 3 or 4 deg. We have caught a lot of trout (bait) but all in about 20 to 30 feet of water. Wait til the end of may when the water temp rises and there should be plenty of action! K.

Good stuff! Glad you got some fish in on your visits, you do seem to post a bit about fishing loch earn. Need to try it myself. Just bought Shakey trion 9' #5/6 so my brother can get into fly fishing, and your post about how you enjoyed using it seemed to be the decider!

Thinking about harelaw next saturday depending on the weather, might try something closer to home if the weather's blowing a gale down there...

I have fished loch Earn a lot early season and it is very tough going. HiD with cormorants, green tailed kate etc work for me. I've had fish on the booby early season too at Earn. End of May/June is when the fly fishing really kicks off but also when the bucky brigade arrive in numbers! Where were you fishing?

Any where i want i got a float tube the bucky brigade are out of sight just me and the ospreys its a different water from the tube.

I was at the cages simply for safety of parking, toilets/shower block ,permits on site and free use of the slipway. Aug/sept last year the sport was amazing !! You could have caught with your eyes shut Tie your self some size 12 Leven spiders fish them on point with a bushy kate or the like size 10 on top dropper some days i was taking 50% on point 50 % on the dropper !! thats a whole lot of sport Dont over look a size 10 diawl bach had one day when the didnt touch the leven spider or big kate but took 11 rainbows and 3 browns on the DB
