Default Orchill

Bonsoir mes amis,

I am fishing the Orchill tomorrow for the first time, any news on how it is doing?

If it is not blowing a gale I might try buzzers for the first time. Best fished in calm conditions on a floating line?

Muchas gracias!

Guten tag mate...

Fished this place about 8 weeks ago. Caught fish on red eyed damsel. Tried down by the burn mouth, no joy so round the other side, by the blue bin and hit fish instantly. Tried buzzers but no joy, however there were fish with bloodworm in there mouth being caught so something to consider. There were 2 guys hitting alot of fish, quite deep, on ace of spades but that might not be your thing?

If fishing the buzzers, i always look for a bank where the wind is blowing into, and cast out at a right angle into the wind, allowing my team of buzzers to be blown into the bank where wind is blowing, in theory where the food is for fish. Does that make sense?? I would try a bloodworm and black buzzer/red throax combo on the floating line fished as above, that my favourite anyway.

Keep us updated....

I have a couple of Aces so might give one a try. Same with bloodworms too.

I know exactly what you mean about your casting into the wind. If you can get a cast out - doesn't need to be far - then there are rewards for wrestling with the wind.

I will update the post when I get back.

Cheers Mitch.

Default Orchill fished great

What a really nice place for starters, tucked away in the middle of no-where. Got there for 9 and there was already a guy playing a fish! Started off on the left hand bank at the side where the burn comes in, there were fish rising all over the place it was crazy! Some jumping too. A couple of guys in boats bagged up quickly, one took his 6 hour limt (4 fish) by half ten. Buzzers were the order of the day.

I caught my first on a Diawl Bach and with my next cast hooked another, I must have cast right on top of it as there was a movement in the water and the fish jumped out the water over my line. Unfortunately after about a minute and a great scrap the hook came out!

There were a lot of fish taken in the first 2-3 hours but it suddenly went quiet and the fish were few and far between for a while. The wind had changed too and was in our faces. For me it is a nightmare to cast into but other guys still manage to get good distance on their casts.

Just as I was about to move away from the wind I went down the dancer route, yellow on the point and a mini coral on the dropper. Something with a bit weight to try and get some distance. Trying to cast in between gusts of wind I managed to take another fish on the mini coral dancer.

Moved round the othe side as the wind was doing my nut in, missed another take later on so two was all for me. My mate Willie got 4 for 10lbs, a nice 4lber and also a blue - despite the fact there are not meant to be any in there. It must have been an escapee from where the fish were reared, the bloke said.

Would defo recommend, great wee fishery, scenery nice, they also have a coarse fishing pond/lochan with carp etc which was quite busy.

Over and out.

Was up at Orchill again on Thursday for a few hours.

A lot tougher than usual due to a constant wind from the north that was pushing the fish further down in the water. And guess who didn't have an intermediate line with them... doh!

Did manage to get one rainbow at 2lb, on a blk/grn montana, that had a great fight on him.

After a few hours I decided to pack up but after looking at the returns for the day I don't think many people had great catches that day but still better a tough day fishing than a good day in the office!!
