Default Burnhouse Lochan

On Saturday me and a mate where off fishing and headed towards Wellsfields and both heard it was quite good, got there and it was mobbed and weather was very wild, coupled with a unhelpful baliff, decided to try and find Burnhouse.

My mate had fished it before, i had heard it was decent so managed to find it. There was one other guy fishing which was a surprised but a nice surprise to say the least. The guys in the lodge were well sound and we headed out, watching the other angler nailing fishing on a bumble.

Weather was windy and bit wet, it cleared up nicely shortly after tho. My mate started to hit fish instantly on buzzers while i perserved with my nymphs. No joy so moved closer to the lodge and instant succes. We had fish all day hitting us, hard, soft, follows etc i was broken too however it was a great day, with great banter with the guys who run it.

I caught and released 6 fish, missing more and my mate was the same. All fish to either snatchers, diawl bachs, black buzzer with red head or a damsel all on floating line.

Many thanks to the biys there, recommend it to anyone and looking forward to returning for a evening with the dries!!!!

I was at Wellsfield on saturday and it did get quite busy and it wasn't fishing brilliantly in my opinion. A few fish getting caught but not loads. I had one to a yellow dancer myself and missed a few. I do wish I had gone to Burnhouse though as that was the other option on saturday. Wind and rain made it not a great day. I've not heard a bad report about the place to be fair. Are there any big fish in there tho? I haven't heard of any doubles being caught there.

Not suggesting that makes for a better day out but I am on a mission to catch my first double.

Ally-the weather was mental at Wellsfield. There wasnt anything big caught the day we went, however the guy there assured us of large trout in the water, that are more often caught later in the evening to the buzzers and dries.

Also hoping to hit a double this season, biggest so far was 9lb 12oz off beecraigs, so close too. Iam not into catching monsters but want to hit that landmark for some reason....

My mate suggested Markle as there alot of big trout in there and coming out, however think i prefer the idea of taking one off a larger water, chance its been in longer, more naturalised?? Lets be honest tho, would take one from anywhere!!!

I have had a number of fish of average size so far, biggest at 6lbs but want to hit a double for the sake of chalking a double off my list. Plus also the scrap from a big fish would make it even more worthwhile too I think. I fish with 6lb leaders so you are less likely to get broken by an 'average stockie' whereas there is a greater risk (i believe) of losing a larger fish so landing it is more of a reward too.

Plus it would make for a nice photo!

Totally mate.... The biggest i had didnt fight as well as a 7lb fish i caught, dunno if was just one of those things tho. Many folk say big fish just hit the bottom of the loch but its only something you can experience. Its certainly exciting when you see it for the first time swimming by the boat.....awesome!!!!

And yeah, good pics!!!!!
