Default Linlithgow Loch with Hospital trip

Hi All

Had a different day out on Linlithgow Loch today. Out at 9am and straight across to the North shore. My 3rd cast launched a bead head black and green fritz through my buddy's right ear, all the way in. We tried to get it out but couldn't so headed off to St John's A and E in Livingstone.
It was pretty funny, in the waiting room 2 women ended themselves when they saw my 60 yr old pal sitting there with a muckle big fritz hanging from his ear. Anyway the hospital were quick and efficient, 2 jags and they pushed the fly right through and snipped the barb off, then pulled it out. My pal told the doc I wouldn't be pleased as I wanted my fly back!

So back to the loch for just after 12:00 and back across to the North shore, anchored off the yellow whin bush 100yds east of the bench. Picked up 3 fish to a wee yellow blob on the point on a slime to slow short pulls. Then moved to east end of the loch for a long drift all the way down the north shore. Picked up fish all the way down, 7 to yellow blob and 1 to black blob, all on slime, and about 2 ft down when on the drift. Good sport for a 4 hour shift.
We kept 4 fish which weighed 13lb 8oz, all fish were 3lb+. Beautiful fish, cracking loch, good boats and really helpful lodge staff(looked after our gear when we went off to the hospital.
Get there if you can, and don't forget....always wear specs or next time it could be your eye!!!

other than the little mishap it does sound like you had a good day

i hope your mate is going to replace the black and green fritz that he lost to the doctors

It happened to my dad a good few years ago as well, he ended up hooking himself in the ear and had to sit in a&e for an hour or so before they got it out (same way as your mate) then he got a tet**** jab in the **** just for some extra humiliation.

And as mentioned always wear glasses and a hat! you only get one set of eyes

I got the fly back but with the barb snipped off, don't know about him replacing it, he says he's seeing his lawyer today for retribution
I don't know what he's on about, I've not charged him for putting 2 holes in his ear.
If Health and Safety get hold of our sport we'll be wearing crash helmets next!!
In 27 years of casting, yesterday was the first time i've sunk one beyond the barb, it shows it can happen at any time, so watch out next time you're "using" the baler in the boat.

Ouch - !

I've managed to hook myself in the upper eye lid with a CDC (had temporarily removed glasses to tie on new fly and forgot to put em back on).....It was a lesson learned for me !! Never , ever forget eye protection !!

Solution was same , snip off the fly with pliers and push the barb through - the wee chap in the club house nearly fainted when I went in- lol.... another angler performed the removal..........It was no more than about 2cm away from being in my eye-ball !!!

I suppose I should have gone for a Tet shot but thankfully no infection.

Sounds like linlithgow is fishing well - were back there in 3 weeks.....

In 3 weeks time the fish should be right on the buzzers, and Linlithgow is hard to beat for thrills when they are.
Don't know if I'd let someone take a fly out of my eyelid, they could rip it off!
