Default Sutton Bingham

I'm working down in Bridport next week and don't want to miss my fishing- can anyone tell me how Sutton Bingham is fishing? I had also thought of Wimbleball, but it looks a bit far- any other suggestions?

Hi G...the Wessex Water web site is a useful resource

http://www.wessexwater.co.uk/recreat...ol.aspx?id=546

I fished Sutton Bingham from the bank last Saturday, 28 March. I had my 5 fish limit, all nice clean fighting rainbows, with a best fish of 3lb so I was well pleased. With the wind out of the north I stayed on the north shore of the reservoir - started in the dam corner but I didn't catch and the other anglers nearby didn't seem to be doing too well either. So after an hour or so I moved up round the "shoulder" and closer to the sailing club and had almost immediate action - caught 4 of the 5 and lost a couple. I moved back closer to the dam after lunch and caught the 5th fish.

The fish weren't too deep in the water, perhaps surprisingly, and I caught on an olive goldhead fished off a floating line. I have seen sillier flies called a damsel nymph. One of the fish had been fry feeding !

Good luck, you should have some reasonable sport next week, and don't let the slight colour in the water put you off

Hi G-M,

Fished it a bit a few years ago in the run up to a comp in May. Floating line or intermediate will be sufficient, and just about anything black and green will work well. The water is slightly coloured because of the resident carp, there is a chance of hooking one of these and they are good fun on a fly-rod.

Buzzers can work well too.

The area closest to the lodge or round the corner to the left is usually a very productive area. The top of the west bank, from the car park/picnic area down to where the road comes alongside the bank can be pretty productive as well.

Enjoy.

There's a lot of bank for a 140 acre reservoir due to its shape, although some isn't very accessible, and you can almost always find somewhere comfortable to fish with the breeze across you. The lake should fish OK next week, the weather forecast isn't at all bad. Have a good time and let us know how you get on.
