According to the weather woman, today was supposed be bright sun and 16'C with 10mph easterly.
Whilst the rest of the country was bathed in early summer sun, we were being held on the jetty until 10 o'clock because we couldn't see the other side of the south arm! It was a real pea soup until about lunchtime. We only got out after bending the warden's arm after catching a brief glimpse of the far side! Only a third of the boats were out too, and we only saw 6 bankies spread between Blue Pipes, Church Bay and East Creek - I thought I would be packed, afterall it is one of Englands premier fisheries and the second day of the new season!
I don't know how any others got on but we found it testing, no fish showing, but small buzzers hatching off. We eventually found the fish in the top couple of feet and BenB finished with 5, I ended up with 7, with the bulk coming in East Creek and an odd fish at Fantasy Island and off the Chuch to black nymphs and sunburst blobs fished on a fast glass and ghost tip. More practice is obviously needed as we could have had a boat full! We both missed stacks of takes and couldn't convert all of the follows. I only saw 1 other drifting boat catching (in East Creek) although there was an anchored boat catching, but then they were sharing the Church Bay stocking point with a bankie

I don't know how Sykes and Stockie Bay fished.
We both had double ups (only Ben got his in!

) and were snapped off a few times. As per usual, the fish (a mix of 'bows and broons) were in top condition and hard to net if you missed them the first time!!!
I think it needs to warm up a bit and the fishing will explode. Hope it does before we return for the Anglian Water Airflo or whatever it's called this year.
Up the Peregrines!

Are we taking turns on Matt Lucas this year?
