Default Churn Pool Fishery

Fished Churn Pool a few times recently. Had a great time on Sunday with an apps bloodworm as advised on this forum and also a black nymph. My fish were between 2 and 4 1/2 lbs and I saw what must have been a couple of 6's also from some of the other guys. They were returned.

Found it harder the previous week, but it was pretty sunny and I didn't have a sinker. Managed a couple on a slim weighted damsel though. Stocking seems to be pretty reasonable for a small fishery.

Hoping to go on Sunday or the following Friday.

I have only been there the once - it was tough that day due to the weather. Used to fish Watermark but they are quite pricey for 4 fish (£35).

The chap who runs the place comes to my fly club (Cheltenham Fly Tiers Guild) http://www.cgfdg.co.uk/aboutus.htm

I will let you know how I get on.

Hi Nomad.

If I can get away from the family activities, I hope to be there on Friday too. Hope it's not as bright as it is today. I see there are some nice fish being caught and one guy had a large carp on the fly according to their members book. Well, anything over 5lbs is large to me, but I'd need a bigger landing net to get the job done! I wonder how long it takes to get a carp to the bank on fly tackle.

Depends on the weight of the outfit.

Today is not bad up here as there is a fair bit of cloud cover and warm. Should be good buzzer hatches in the next few weeks providing it does not go cold again.

I suppose you're right there Nomad.

We're actually pretty well off for still waters around here I guess. Bushy, Churn and some large waters not far away near Bristol. It's nice to see various places through the year. I tend to lean towards catch and release venues and I don't think Bushy allow it.

Here's to the soon to come evening rises !

Have you tried Farmoor I? It was opened up last year a a pure C&R water. It is the smaller of the two resovoirs (need Oxford if you are not familar with the venue) and it was 'blinding' last year. The fish I took in there were stunning - most 4LB up overwintered rainbows that took me out to the backing on each run! They put a stock of Steehead in there last year as well.

Never saw one fish - think it was a very big brown or even a Zander - just went deep and kept going If the weather is good it is worth the extra drive but if the weather is to clear or windy then it can be a real effort without boats. Check out http://www.farmoor-reservoir.com/community/ for reports.

Thanks Nomad. I'll have to give it a shot. I heard that one of the lakes has recently had a bit of trouble, but I thinks it's back on track now. Looks like boats are now back, also.

Do you fish from the bank only or mix it up?

I passed by Churn Pool this afternoon on the way back from work. Looked like it was fishing well on lures and small nymphs according to the two guys I spoke to. I think they are stocking sometime next week also.

Wish I had a rod as it's too nice to work. I'll report back next week if I can get myself out on Friday.

I emailed them yesterday to see if I needed to book for Sunday, Daniel replied saying they last stocked in the middle of March with a top up of 50 going in last Sunday, the next stocking is on 7th April, Rainbows from 13/4 to 5 pounds.
