Default Church Hill Fishery, Mursley

Anyone fished this ?

We have a club outing there in a week or so - not my ideal fishery as no C&R but it's a one off.

Default church hill fishery

fished there the last couple of weekends, had a 8lb 8 onze rainbow out of the top lake (dog leg) on gold headed nymph fished at 8ft slow figure of eight retrieve. if the fish are on the top try harry potters pulled fast over the surface. have had a few large browns best 5lb 4 onze on sawyers nymphs very slow retrieve, seems the slower the better. hope it helps.

as soon as the weather warms up the fish tend to feed on the surface. in general gold headed nymphs work well, i tend to start fishing at 12ft depth and work up till i find the fish. natural colours: green, brown tend to work very well. floating line works very well just be prepared to change the depth untill you start finding fish. the bottom lake (largest one) fish tend to be in the bottoem left corner (looking from the ticket house) that seesm to be the deeper water. damsel nymphs have worked very well, same again try fishing at 12-15ft depth and work up till you start hitting fish. slow retrieve with the occassional pull seems to work.

Regards

Thanks.

Any good with apps or gold head daddy ?

Lures no good at all - gold head cat usually works well on smallish waters like that ?

I might give Church Hill Fishery a try on Thursday. Its closer to me than Lechlade and Barn Elms.

I tried phoning but no joy this afternoon. Does anyone have info like prices/tickets/limits and opening times. There's not that much info on the web.

Cheers,
Phil

We are paying £33 for a 4 fish ticket, Phil. Not sure what other options there are.

No C&R, single fly. Sounds like there are some good fish and quite a lot of browns.

Thanks Charlie.

Similar prices to a 4 fish ticket at Bushy and Barn Elms then. Single fly I'll have to do a bit more thinking than usual

Yeah, I hate that too. Let us know how you get on, please.

So we had the club day there and it left me with mixed feelings - very pretty venue with clear as crystal water, but rather easy and fish size a bit small for a £33 four fish ticket with no C&R.

We do a 2 fish limit in the morning and the same in the afternoon. The mornings limit took me a bit less than ten minutes and the afternoon lasted all of half an hour. Considering it is a single fly venue, that makes it rather easy.

A small black and green lure worked early on and nymphs after lunch when quite a rise was going on.

The fish were in good nick but, of the 51 fish caught, not one was 3lbs and my four fish went 7lbs 5ozs which is rather disappointing at the price.

I ended up heading to Farmoor last week instead of Church Hill as I only had a few hours free that day. The plan is to go in a couple of weeks but I might head to Bushyleaze now that I've read your report Charlie. Sounds like Church Hill stocked the place for your club coming hence the kamikaze (small) trout. Not good value at all.

I had 3 around the 5lb mark on F1, lost 2 or 3 at the net and had a good few takes. Lots of fish on the surface and managed to cast to a few and get them to take a PTN, going back tomorrow

What a shame about this fishery. In bygone days it was the 'dogs' you had a bell that was rung for lunch and the fishing was soooooooo good. It was quoted in books as well as the mags as the place to go.

A shame!
