Default Draycote water

Did anybody fish Draycote today? I am fishing tomorrow and was wondering if there is any method that shone today?
What areas fished best on what lines?

Didn't fish it and probably won't be able to for a few weeks, but my mate who's a regular will be on there at the weekend, fishing his/our usual method (if windspeed ok), which generally works all year round and sorts out the better fish: Northampton style drifting with big lures (zonkers/tubes/owens), on Di7 but shallowing up with Di4/5s or intermediates to find fish if higher up in the water. Various drifts across the middle, Toft and the Shoals until finding fish. No doubt there will be plenty of fresh stockies still hugging the shores and susceptible to buzzers or standard lures if thats more your thing. If nobody else can give you current info, Keith will put you right on the day Enjoy!

Thanks Jeff,
With a name like lancasterblobber, I dont think I will be buzzer fishing! LOL.

DI 7 and 5 sound like a good plan of attack. I will post what tomorrow brings!

Hi Lancasterblobber,

Fished it today from the bank. In the first hour my old man and i had taken 6 overwintered rainbows all around 3-4lb!! They were in fantastic nick!! not a stockie in sight! It then went dead, not an offer for an hour so we moved to Rainbow corner. Wind was blowing pretty much straight in at us but it mattered not. You only had to get 15-20 yards out and it was a fish a chuck! All on a black and green lure (shock - horror!) on an intermediate. These were all fresh stock fish but in good enough condition. Had a few words with a couple of boats that tried to anchor right where i was casting and all this commotion forced me to move along the other side. A few fish were coming off the tower bank but not in huge numbers and the same for Dunns bay. They were the only places i fished but at the moment, if the wind allows, i would get into Rainbow corner!

Changes day to day as i'm sure you know but ask the top man, Keith in the lodge, and he'll put you on fish.

Has anyone ever met a more helpful chap than Keith at draycote?!!

Good luck.

Absolute gent isn't he? and as you say, tip top fish.

I haven't fished off the bank for many years, but you mentioning Rainbow corner reminded me of a funny opening day some years back. We had booked a boat but due to a mix up there wasn't one for us when we arrived so had to resort to the bank. My pal and I split up as he is left handed, me right. I'd only had one fish, albeit a decent one from Biggin in the morning. I caught up with him late afternoon at the clubhouse and he'd struggled too but had just had his limit from Rainbow corner on the way back. We whizzed round there in the car and there was half a dozen boats all crowded in. I paddled out just a few feet, casting just a short line into a headwind, intermediate and a pink(!) taddy and took 7 fish in 7 casts, whilst those in the boats looked on catching nothing - they had basically herded all the fish into the bank right in front of me. 10 mins after I had arrived I was back in the car with a bag full, whilst the boat lads were still flogging away Ok, it was stocking bashing but I reckoned I'd earned it after flogging away all day long elsewhere)

How'd it go then Mr Blobber? A bit chilly and breezy I'll guess!

Myself and four other team members, Peregrine FF descended on Draycote Water and all had a cracking day! Despite being battered by 25 mph winds and torrential rain we all drift fished from Rainbow corner all the way down to the boat jetty and caught from top to bottom. 5 of us caught 98 fish with a large number being over wintered, my first fish was an over wintered 6lb 4onz bow and another team member Brian had one at 7.5lb. Although we caught a lot of fish, it wasnt a total stockie bash I was very suprised at the number of fish from last year, at least 50% of our haul.

Most of the fish came to lures and sinking lines as expected when drifting in a strong wind. My boat partner Steve (theyoungone) and myself pulled lures all day and caught some craking fish, Steve finished on 29 and I came a close 2nd with 25 and both of us had a brilliant day

I just like to agree with the blobber's comments yesterday was a cracking day despite the wind. Myself and BenB finished with 11 fish each the vast majority were between the 21/2lb and 4lb mark lovely over wintered fish.I lost count of the number bumps, pulls and follows to the boat we had. It was the first time i had fished the water and will definately be going back. 76 fish to 2 boats is quite an amazing return

The number of buzzers hatching all day was quite astonishing bearing in mind the conditions, several of the fish I caught were full of buzzers of all sizes and colours. I wonder how many we could have had is there had been less wind and rain and fish buzzers had been an option

Well done to everyone associated with Draycote for running such a good fishery the only improvment i can see is moving it about 100miles north!!!!! LOL

thanks

You're a bunch of buggers, going off and having a cracking day without me!

It's not long to Rutters though and I'll be ready!
