Default SEPA CHARGES (extortion)

Are there any fishery owners being forced to pay sepa for the C.A.R liscence im being billed almost 5 grand for a liscence to use my dams as fisheries??? this is for a controlled activities regulation (C.A.R ) raw water usage liscence. These extortionate fees are in my opinion outrageous and will alomost certainly put me out the game. Are any other raised dam, impoundment , or man made fisheries with valves or that come under the reservoirs act being forced to or are already paying.??

These dams were built in 1844 and have been unregulated since then, now SEPA want a slice of the pie, for nothing in return , its a disgrace.

This has to be overturned or fisheries all over the country will close.

Any one have any advice??

Hi Alex this has been coming for a couple of years now as far as I understand it and you are the first I have heard of to be paying it.
Its as you say another way of gaining money for old rope.It applies to water which is a meter or above an existing flow of water be it burn, river and so on or extracts water from an exising source through pipe work.
This is my understanding of it and I may be wrong.

What does rattle me is that the small business fisheries are the ones who will end up being hit and those with plenty of money are able to take water from migratory water sources without any penalty to fill their waters and nothing gets done and its overlooked.had it been a someone who wishes to just make a living they would have been hit hard.

SEPA Want to charge for everything,We wanted to lower the level of our loch in the winter,SEPA wanted a large amount of money to allow us to do this,They appear to have become a revenue collector to be self sustaining.

Did they not try and charge you for building the platforms.

to be honest jim i stopped caring ages ago. I will carry on regardless and see what happens, they are destroying everything that is good in what i am trying to do, i cannot generate enough to hand over these sums of money yearly so my descision may have been made for me.

It might be an idea for ASSF members to see how the CARS regulations are affecting their businesses and collectively lobby for a change.

I believe that they did something similar years ago when there were big variations in business rates.
