Default markle question?

I have a friend coming to stay next weekend and I would like to take him fishing as he says he has not been for years and enjoys it.

I live close to Markle and was thinking of taking him there.

Has anyone fished here recently and if so how was the fishing, flies, tactics etc.

I checked the Markle website but it looks like it has not been updated for years

cheers

david

Buzzers on the big pond, floating line. Midge tip and cormies on the wee pond with a cat or other lure. jim

As Jim says - buzzers or small hares ears on the big pond but if you're struggling, try a yellow dancer or a black/gold shuggie. An orange fritz is always worth a shot on the wee pond.

Default Not too deep

You have to watch when you're fishing Markle that you don't go too deep and end up fishing below the trout - I've learned the hard way. Even on the coldest days, chances are that they will still be just below the surface so it's always better to go with the floater even if fishing lures.

How did you get on David? Hopefully it was today that you were fishing and not yesterday or you would have been lucky to stand up let alone fish.

Hello folks, thanks for all the info on markle. Did not manage to go last month as the chap i was going with had chest pains and had to go to hospital however i finally managed to get there last friday afternoon.

I caught three, lost two and was snapped as well and although i didnt catch loads i was more than happy being there as everyone seemed to be catching. My mate also caught three and lost a few.

In the afternoon we caught using a floating line with okay dokey, viva and green fritzy type things and in the evening a cats whisker without the front marabou pulled slowly under the surface.

The colours of the day were green and black. A chap next to me was using flys that looked about a size 12 with a green fritz front half, black rear and a short black marabou tail fished very slowly and he was catching literally dozens.

It's been black and green montana type nymphs that have been working the last couple of times I've been down. Some cracking fish in there just now, had a 7lb er that had 30 yards of backing out.

Fished it quite a bit last season. Great sport on the top loch with wee emergers but always found the bottom loch a bit dour. It can be quite blustery up there but on its day it is one of the best small waters in Scotland.

A few years ago I had my biggest weight haul ever....must have had about twenty odd fish with about 5 over the 5lb mark with one over the double figure mark.
