Question river wear grayling advice

Hello all, brand new to all this so you may need to point me in the right direction now n then.Is their anyone out there who can advise, ive just joined durham city angling club to try a bit of river fishing for trout n grayling, been out above shincliffe hall a couple of times bugging for grayling but no luck.Is there any up there or is it me being a complete novice, also is there many brownies up there. Fished stillwaters for years but hoping to dabble a bit more on the wear around shincliffe area as its close to home any info or tactics will be a great help.

hi pedro ,
grayling are few and far between on the wear now , well atleast compared to10 or so years ago .thats just my opinion.
they are still some there if you can find them , i rarely go out fishing for them in the autumn as they can be hard to locate .
although i do catch the odd one during the trout season using spiders .

hi pedro ,
yes there are browns well spread throughout the wear , around shincliffe is more coarse fishing but there are still browns in there.
i'd join ferryhill and dist AC if i was you as it has more water than durham AC (upstream)and only costs £45 per season , although i've joined kirkby stephen this season i will still be going on the wear atleast once a week (time permitting) as its only 500 yards away from my house and i know the river like the back of my hand.

Default wear

Cheers , will look into that only joined dcac because that stretch at shincliffe is the closest to me,ideal to grab couple of hours here and there as the stillwaters i fish are an hour away.

hi noel ,

i know bishop auckland has water that far up the dale , but their club is very pricey compared to others in the area .
also willington angling club also has a stretch up there and is around £30 per season ticket.

More like fifty quid for Willington these days, I believe. (I think they charge you an extra tenner or so for membership if you live outside the Wear Valley.)

thats quite expensive compared to others as willington only have two small stretches on the wear , whereas ferryhill has around 7 miles , plus the skerne , tyne and tees for £45 .
