Default Beecraigs Loch Fishery

Hi everyone,

Can anyone shed light on the closure of the fishery at Beecraigs? I was up there today (not fishing unfortunately) and signs indicated that the fishery is now closed for good. How will this affect stocking of the Loch?

Regards,
Flyby

Hi Jim,

It appears that it is only the fish farm business that is closed. All the pools were drained. Signs around the complex and at the visitors centre indicate that the business will not be reopening. There was fishing taking place on a great day to be out there in a boat.

I was out today on beecraigs with edinburgh post office, but apart from us no other boats were taken. There must have been 7 or 8 cormorants swimming about and out of the 6 in my boat 3 had stab marks. The fish were not in great condition either but nobody in the hut said anything about closing down.

How will this affect the stocking of the loch and future fishing? Beecraigs has a great reputation, even featured in TF recently.

Just like other fisheries they will buy their fish in. But no doubt have sacked some staff.

From a friend

Quote:
I have just spoken to the staff at the Fishery who wish to allay any
fears, following statements issued on the net in various fishing forums,
that the fishery HAS NOT CLOSED DOWN - IT IS BUSINESS AS USUAL.

The council, as part of a cost cutting exercise, have closed the fish farm
side of the operation although they have assured me that fish will be
stocked into the loch on a daily basis.

i hope this goes some way to alleviating any fears there may have been.

Sounds like the slippery slope to me , One good thing if they are buying in fish they should be better than the **** they were putting in the loch :
