Default Swanswater today

Evening,

This morning I looked out of the window, saw some light rain and a bit of a wind but decided i would fish for a couple of hours and see what happened.

I headed North from Glasgow towards Stirling, still unsure of where my final destination would or should be. I thought of Burnhouse and thought again so drove past the cumbernauld services cut off and kept going. Then I had a brainstorm that Burnhouse would probably be the best bet today so headed back through Bonnybridge to go there. "Fishery closed until 4pm".

Hmmmm. Swanswater! Ill try there. Ive often thought of swanswater as being a specimen tank and only huge blues, browns and cheese toastie fight rainbows were coming out ON LURES.

When i got to the carpark, it was crammed so there must have been no pegs on the main water. I bought my 2hr/2 fish ticket for 12 quid and wandered down to the "Millpond" which is a small pond to the right of the lodge.

Two guys were casting into the water and watching intently for a rise somewhere or anywhere on the water. Nothing was moving.

I walked to the far side of the pond about half way down and cast out my team of three black nymphs. "Black Blank Busters", for a very very slow retrieve. I had on my new Pitsford Pirates floater which i have to say is excellent and casts long and straight with no memory and fanned my casts from 9-3 oclock along the bank. BANG.,......a nice 2lb rainbow in immaculate condition with a great fight ensuing.

I landed the 1st fish, lit a regal filter and sat watching the world go by.

5 mins later a twitch and a tug and BANG......3lb rainbow in excellent condition on the line with another healthy winter fight.

I couldnt help but feel i was in a hotspot so moved to the other side to allow someone else my peg. They did, they caught 3 fish in 20 mins!!!!

So get to Swanswater and fish the Wee pond to the right of the lodge/carpark and have a nosey at the small round pond surrounded by an electric fence. I counted at least 10 Brownies all above 6Lb swimming amongst the other 2000 hand reared wild fish that are 30 days away from being put into popullation!!!!

Summary-

Swanswater is a heavy lure bashing water but if you stick to what you use and ignore the madness of lure addiction, im sure you will come away with your limit in 60mins and a very memorable visit to take home and talk about

I actually nearly went to Swannie today, decided i had just enough time to get a 2 hour ticket in, didn't manage though, went back to my bed!

Glad to see you caught them on some nymphs, last time i was there, main weapon of choice was the hothead damsel by most. I tried a variety of nymphs but blanked

I reckon Swanswater is one of the best fisheries of it's kind in the area for scenery and quality of fish.

Nice one.
