Default Bowden Springs?

Been wanting to fish here for a wee while, just to see what it is like. Went up one sunday lunchtime a couple of weeks ago and it was closed. Tried phoning them today and it just rang out. Got the email from their website and emailed them and it bounced back saying mailbox full.

Does anyone have any idea if they are still operating or is the place actually just badly run?

Hi Ally

Popped up last winter (first visit) one saturday no one there we went to bangour instead

Guy at work had a similar experience one sunny summers day, no one in sight no one answered the phone

Seems to be very, very badly run indeed, ive heard lots of other anecdotal tales the same

Ive finished with the place, cos its going to go bust anyway and close

Well barring a sudden flurry of positive responses they have lost my custom. Too many negative stories no good ones.

My mate and I tried to buy it from the women owner some 4-5 years ago, but wanted far too much for it. It has great potential in a beautiful setting, but its been miss-managed for a wee while now IMHO. It now seems that its going down hill at a rate of knots. Sad really, as I think I know what the problem is but for legal reasons can't say on a public forum

Are you able to say what sort of money you are talking about? Curious about what a fishery costs. Understand if you can't.

Hi Ally. It would Identify us that bit more if I said the figure as we had discussed in detail that it was too much and gave an offer of our own.

We also tried for an old Quarry just outside Bathgate/Armadale and that had a waiting list on that as well!! So there does seem to be room for a quality fishing location within the Central belt. Our quest still goes on to find the ideal site within the central belt, but only for fly fishing only.

Sick of seeing some mixed fisheries (viz, Bowden) stocking with small runts (in the bait pond generally) and allowing the power baiters (not all) to drag them out with what looks akin to sea fishing gear.

Our vision is quality fish, possible membership or even syndicate where member of such will look after the fishery thus needs less policing.

Times are bad at the moment, but it will pick up and nows the time to look around. We have a few locations in mind that we would like to own but £???

I was reading this thread and i was disapointed to see Bowden Springs was closed, as i had a great days fishing there about 5 months ago. So i phoned the fishery today and guess what it has never been closed, i will be fishing it on Wednesday with 4 of my mates so will let you all know how the fishing goes. the owner told me the only time the fishery was closed was last winter when most other fisherys were also closed due to the freeze over we all expierienced.

Just saw your post.

Simple really, don't fish any where else! stick to your own fishery, but don't deny the opportunity for other fishers to sample new or new ownership fisheries that just may open up.

P.S. where is a muddy hole fishery
