Went to Loch Insch for a wee day out yesterday. Just moved to the Aberdeen area so this was my first visit.
Started off by heading to the Loch in the middle (not sure of the name)
There was still a bit of ice about. I picked up a fish straight away on a wee red bloodworm. I was casting right along the seam of the ice. It resulted in a nice wee trout of about two pounds which gave a good account of itself. The fish was returned. Good start.
Every now and then my cast would go astray and would land on the ice. When pulled off the ice i was getting takes as the fly hit the water. Has anyone ever experience this before? I can only assume the fish were under the ice and following the fly. Attacking it when it hit the water! Very exciting although i did miss alot of fish.
I then walked round to explore for a bit. Casting and using the same tactics.
I fished till about three o'clock and ended up with another three fish. I kept these and they weighed 6lbs. Most successful area was right outside the hut. Again the red bloodworm did the damage. I used both floating and Intermediate lines throughout the day.
It started to get a bit cold about four o'clock so i headed up to weigh in.
All in all i had a very enjoyable day. Very well kept wee fishery with a well stocked tackle shop and friendly staff.
I will definately be back.
Ps...sorry i have no pictures. No digital camera at the moment.
