Default Loch Lomond area

Hi folks, Im heading up to Loch Lomond in early march and was wondering what the fishing is like in that area. Can you fish the loch itself or is march out of season. Are there any decent stillwaters in that area that are going to be open this time of year?

Cheers for the help.

Pete.

15th March before Brown Trout season opens.but the Salmon/Seatrout season opens february.
I have no idea what your experience of boat handling, but would suggest that Loch Lomond(the big loch) is no place for a novice.
There are not many rainbow fisheries in the area surrounding Loch Lomond.possibly one in the Renton area.
The lake of Menteith is close, but not open.

Jim

The Loch is open for Salmon on 11th Feb, but the only method worth trying at that time of year is trolling, last season on opening day we had a 5lb brown trout on a trolled dead trout.

I think you may struggle fishing for salmon at that time of year to put it mildly. If you are a pike fisher there are some options not only on Loch Lomond but also in the Trossachs lochs which are about 40 minutes drive from Balloch.

Endrick, its trout Im going to be fishing for but as the brown seasons still going to be closed Im struggling to find somewhere open for the rainbows. I have found a few stillwaters but cant find details on anual opening times etc.

Cheers

Where abouts will you be based? If you're going to be at loch lomond and prepared to travel a wee bit, you could head back towards glasgow in the paisley direction and fish Snypers dam, harelaw or howwood. All have websites, just give them a google, will be plenty fine for rainbow fishing.

You could try Dunoon ressy for rainbows. You will need to contact the tackle shop in Dunoon for tickets [Purdies] It is not to far from Loch Lomond

Cheers for the replies lads. Things are starting to look up .

We havn't booked anywhere yet but were looking to perhaps stay at Loch Lomond holiday Park. I have no idea where the holiday park is situated on Loch Lomond though, it looks like quite a big place

Im going to have a good trawl through here later and see whats open and whats not. http://www.assf.net/index.html

Many thanks for the suggestions
