Default Chalk Springs 28/12/08

As expected,a cold day although almost pleasant midday in the weak sunshine.
Club day, around 25 fished and as far as i know,no one blanked.
I targeted two blues for around 2 hours, finally getting one to take only to loose it.
Moved lakes and joined my mate who had a big pod of fish in front of him.Lost two quick fish then banked four rainbows, all on damsels fished fairly fast.Managed to loose two more blues, moved to opposite side of pool and had one more quick fish.Lots of plucks and follows between fish.
Fish were podded up on all four pools with few fish showing other than those.
Nothing of any real note taken, best around 5lb or so,mostly all stockies of 2/2.5lb.

Hello Chub1, I'm off to Chalk Springs this Wednesday. Was there any ice around? At what depth were you fishing the Damsels? Any advice re tackle please.
Cheers
John

Default Chalk Springs Diary - 31DEC08

Hello again Chub1, Here's how it went after your welcome advice:

31DEC08 1000-1500hrs
Chalk Springs, Arundel. Plus Mark, Sue & Beryl.
Mild wind, mainly overcast, temperature 0C.
First outing with new Orvis 5Wt., mid flex, 9ft Clearwater II rod, Christmas present from family, plus 6Wt DT Leeda Galion floating line.
No fish rising.
Crowded so worked bottom of South,
East and West Lake and worked Northwards, with Gold Head Beaded Olive Damsels, Shrimp, Cats Whisker with no luck using 5ft floating braided leader and 4ft of 5lb nylon tippet.
1300hrs Crowd thinned out.
Fish now rising.
Changed to 8ft of 4lb nylon tippet and Floating Daddy Longlegs.
1430Hrs - North Lake, missed stalked Rainbow, jumped off close in, tried to net too soon :-(( .
1500hrs - North Pool, caught stalked Rainbow 2lb 2oz.
Was a good day out with my youngest son. Both first time fishing to trout that we could see. Learnt from the experience.
The ladies went sight seeing in Arundel and bird watching at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust.
Not bad for a 72 years young fly fishing novice :-)).

Cheers

John
