Default Helwith Bridge

Anyone got a recent report/advice for Helwith Bridge pls?
My mate & I are thinking of heading over there tomorrow...
Last time out we blanked (Stocks on the recent Rio fours [difficult] day), so we're ready for a few in the net

Hi Noeyedeer!

Not fished it for a while but you can't go far wrong with a slow inter and minkies at this time of year - it pays to keep moving if you're not into fish within 15/30 mins.

Try http://www.flyfishingyorkshiredales.co.uk/catches.htm for catch info.

Hope this helps

Cheers
Ben

Default Helwith

Just to round up - had a superb day at Helwith, we both bagged up including my best trout yet - 6Lb ! Fish taking everything from Lures, Damsels, to Buzzers. Wind changes direction a lot but it's no real hardship.

good to see you had a good day noeyedeer i have had several good days up at helish bridge over the past couple of years with a couple of doubles and plenty between 5 and 8 lbs. The black minkie with a buzzer on the dropper normally works on a ghost tip. Like BenB says keep moving til you find the fish i had 33 on day last month including 12 in 12 casts at one stage. I have always found that it fishes better the fewer anglers there are as in the clear water the fish will get easily spooked. The quality of the fish is also second to none.
I know these tips are after you have been but they are still worth bearing in mind on your next visit.
cheers

Default One way ticket to Helwith... and back.

We did go back to Helwith, and Noeyedeer had another good day, with four fish to lures and buzzers. I blanked, first time since the Stock's trip. In fact I never even had a bite. I should have known it was going to be tough when the track down to the quarry was like the Cresta run. I got stuck turning round on deeply rutted ice but eventually managed to get out with a bit of help from fellow anglers.

Beautiful day, but hard fishing. I'll be staying closer to home for my next trip.

just a quick up date i ventured to helwith last friday it was very cold and very windy despite this i managed 19 fish up to 5lbs on the normal ghost tip and black lure. I missd several pulls i think the fish were taking the lure short. There was another chap fishing who managed to draw a blank despite the offer the fly i was using i think he got a pull on a buzzer.
Some people just won't take advice and helpfulness which i was offering freely i know that if i was fishing with someone who was bagging up and i was struggling for a touch i would listen to them rather than stay on the bank freezing my b#####ks off for no fish. This place never seems to fail to produce fish i am currently running at 65 fish in my last 3 trips.
