I'm taking my ten year old nephew for his first "real" fishing trip at the end of next week. I'd be really grateful if anybody has any recent experience of the place? I'm just praying we catch something decent as I don't want him thinking maggots and roach are the final word in fishing

Dave, I am a member of the club that is based there and we fished it about three weeks ago. It was excellent, and my understanding is that it continues to fish well.

The banks have been good but I would not recommend that with a ten year old. Take a boat to the area from Hall Point to the Peninsular and fish lures on a medium sinker. when we were there the fish were near the top but probably going deeper as it gets colder.

Orange/coral booby on the point, orange blob on the dropper, was the method but white/green will probably work too.

Ask the wardens as they are very helpful.
