Default Wellsfield Fishery nr Stirling

Does anyone fish this place? If so how have you done and what seems to work?

I have just got back into fishing after many years off. Perfect timing just as the season ended!!! I started bait fishing but have now got new fly tackle and am ready to give it a go again.

I have been to Wellsfield a couple of times on the bait pond but ready for a crack on the fly lochans.

Does anyone have any recommmendations for flies for using on still water for rainbows?

Or any other good places in east central Scotland?

Cheers

Welcome Ally Burnhouse at Allandale is ok,swanswater stirling, linlithgow loch, millhall polmont(closed for season) depends on what your after.

Loads of flies work buzzers, traditional, dries, lures and all in between but your in the right place to ask.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I read the link and loads of great advice. I wouldn't know where to start with choosing flies as my dad always set me up as a child. Always used to play safe with a Greenwells Glory if in doubt but this was normally on rivers. Don't know if it would be any good at WF?

Thanks very much for the offer but am away at a christening this weekend in Preston. Might manage to get up the following weekend or I might try Allandale?

Might catch up sometime tho.

Thanks again.

Ally~

I wouldnt say its not fishing well at present ? I fished two, 4 hrs tickets there in the last three weeks took 5 fish of a possible 6 The water is pretty coloured right now always is when we had a lot of run off surface water, so probably bright /dark flys lures just to help the fish see. And id keep it slow

Normally yellow dancer does very well also mini cats, black buzzers, hares ear nymphs, damsel nymphs, orange frizt, most gold heads to be honest. Oh Viva dancer (black hackle yellow tail) took alot of fish for me there this time last year.

I always use a floating line and fish nymphs on a long leader say 15'-18ft

Have fun, i like the fact they dont do C & R and my fish alway have lovely full tails

sorry i should have stated it isnt fishing well for some typical of wellsfield in the last couple of seasons, most days i bag up quite quickly others i blank i usually catch on the yellow dancer or a home tied black/green flexi cat`s whisker,or some days on a tiny size 16 black gnat unfortunetally for me i havent quite fathomed out what works best and when only been fishing a couple of seasons and find it hard to judge water conditions, obviously comes with experience

I will need to stock up on those flies you guys have mentioned, I don't think I have any of those. (Typical!!)

I am dying to get out there but being a 9-5 office slave I have to wait till the weekends. And I am away this weekend so it will need to be the following. Which so happens to be my wifes birthday so I will need to get some brownie points in the bag to get a few hours to myself.

Been looking at other local places and Ballencrieff ( as mentioned above by ParamedicPete) looks good on the website and so does Bowdensprings. Any thoughts?

If I get an outing planned for the 22nd/23rd I will let you guys know and if our paths cross then feel free to impart some of your wisdom my way!!
