I have now fished the new lake at Rib twice, so I thought it was worth writing up.
It is obviously much smaller than Rib and lacks some of its character, but it is well stocked and the fish are better quality than previously. It is also very even and generally deeper than the bigger lake.
The weather was pretty dire so I went for an all out lure approach with small white/green, black/green goldheads and orange blobs. After mising a couple of pulls I caught my first fish deep but also saw odd fish caught by others on floaters. When I found some other Rib club members, they were catching close in, and I mean CLOSE IN ie 1-2 yards from the bank
We gradually worked out that there were fish to be had at this range all around the lake and the most successful method was to fish a floater with a single goldhead and cast along the bank, as close to the rushes as you could get, then retrieve slowly. In most cases, you would catch within a couple of minutes of moving to a new spot, and if you did not get a pull after five minutes you had to move on.
I had six and missed a few pulls which was a nice day in very windy conditions.
