I used to fish commore fishery in neilston, i know its now closed, however i heard that it may be opening up again as some kind of fishery.

Has anyone heard anything, it used to be a lovely place to fish. Also i do a bit of fly fishing myself, however my mates dont and they only bait fish, so it was a handy place for me to go fly fishing while they baited, or i would just bait fish with them.

Also do you reckon there would be any fish in it now? Ones that were not caught and taken out? Also i heard there used to be a number of brownies that used to be in it, do you think there will be many wild brownies in it at the moment?

I think it was drained at the start of the year and all the rainbows taken out, i,me not sure if it,s going ahead but there was talk of it being started up again next year as a broonie only syndicate water (fly only )the man to speak to is alex cairnie who runs snypes and harelew fisheries.

I believe Alex is hoping to open Commore as a Brown Trout only syndicate water. Not sure if it will be fly only or whether bait will be allowed though.

I'm sure I've also read a post from Alex on here recently that he's planning to make the nearby Harelaw fly-only from next year. As far as I know though, Snypes is still fly & bait.

You could try giving Alex a buzz and ask him - he's very enthusiastic and working hard on the Harelaw and Snypes fisheries and his efforts certainly seem to be paying off.

Posts are correct, commore will hopefully be a syndicate/club water and currently no fishing is permitted , the signs are up so excuses. No bait fishing will be allowed stricctly fly only. Harelaw will be the same as it will be a troutmasters next year. Snypes will maintain certain areas for bait fishing untio the minority ultimately destroy it for everyone else by continually breaking the fishery rules.

thanks for clarifying that, i havnt been up since the previous owner (john?) owned it. Thats good that there will be a brown trout fishery there, are there wild brownies in it?

Alex, ive fished snypes before, its a great fishery, thats a shame bait fishers are destroying it... can i ask what they are doing to destroy it? Also can you not just ban these idiots?

Sorry i know its probably not as easy as it sounds, hope you manage to keep the fishery going though for bait fishers

Sorry d,ont no what you are refering too Highlander, fisheries have rules which need to be adhered to,to keep the fishery running on an even keel,alex is only stating that a small percentage of bait fishers are breaking the rules thus spoiling the fishing for everyone else, one of the big problems i have found with bait fisherman is that most d,ont want to keep their catch or try and release a smaller fish with no chance of survival, only to see it belly up floating down the water after hooking deep,in the hope they will catch a bigger fish,I am sure alex himself can enlighten you further

The main problem is using extremely poor quality tackle unfit for the job, and cheap nylon sold by all of our tackle shops in bulk spools, lost fish with TREBLES down their throats floating dead after a busy weekend and theft of fish. Also the litter left in the bait fishing areas week in week out is a disgrace. A recent club booking for approx £600 worth of buisness was turned down by myself as i was told in no uncertain terms if the guys couldnt use trebles to keep their powerbait on the hook and if they were not allowed to drink alcohol they werent coming.......easy descision.

My rules are very limited and very simple, i just will not be treated like an idiot by anyone for any amount of money.

There can only be my way of doing things, then only i can be blamed if it fails...
