Default Curley's

Hi
I haven't actually fished myself for a while just do the tuition there but lots of guys are catching with a whole variety of methods.
Today for example, very very cold but the fish were still topping and one guy caught 3 fish in no time at all on hoppers then as the wind picked up a little and the fish went a bit deeper, he changed to an intermediate and caught more on Cat's. Another fly fisher was buzzer fishing on a floater with a long leader and caught quite a few.
Basically you can catch fish with most methods but be prepared to change and don't stay in one place if you aren't getting into fish.
If you or anyone else from the forum comes to Curley's make yourselves known it will be good the have a chat.

Default A Great Place to go

No need for Sat . Nav . just follow the directions given on the website you can’t go wrong , takes you straight to the front door .

The day was cool with sunny spells and a light wind just enough to put a good ripple on the water.

The staff very helpful as to what the best patterns and the current hotspots were, although having fished all day i would say the water was packed with fish.

We (4 of us ) all opted to start on the side parallel to the road , my first cast ended in the trees behind, there is definitely a knack to fishing on these pontoons and that is to keep your back cast short there is no need to throw a long line the fish are close in.

My son and I did okay on the pontoons fishing mainly daddy long legs and floating fry patterns bringing 6 to the net over a 3 hour period.

Pete move round to the embankment for ease, as he was catching tree trout as well and was soon rewarded with a rainbow of about pound and half taken on a damsel nymph , to say it is a cool day the fish are well up in the water.
Norm was taking fish on home tied bloodworms and buzzer patterns

We all finished off on the embankment side pulling fish out with great regularity, Pete finished the day with a flurry putting on a yellow cats whisker and getting three to the bank within thirty minutes all safely returned to fight another day. Norm also had 4 or 5 to his name.
My son and I caught another 5 between us well in truth my son 4 myself 1

Tackle down and let’s get to the cafe for a brew, there is a extensive menu to choose from in clean and pleasant surroundings and friendly staff.

A qiuck note of thanks to Mike for the info, hopefully catch you next time.

I don’t think this will be the last visit we will be making to Curleys Fishery

With the River Dee un-fishable I decided to take one of the small boats out on Curleys, as usual at this fishery the fish were well up in the water, two of us in the boat with around 40 fish between us although all credit to my friend Phil as he caught the largest one on a very light leader, played expertly for a relative newcomer to the sport.

Fish were 1 1/2 foot down, and taking Natural Sparkle Zonkers with an Orange Blob on the dropper, floating line, 20ft leader and a slow figure of eight retrieve. The water was coloured, visibility around 1ft so keep the retrieve slow and steady with unweighted flies.

Phil with the largest fish of the day.
