Not my usual sort of water ,but Mike Barrio the owner is a diamond ,have known him from forums for a decade or so .I t would have been rude not to go when we were flooded of the deveron ,so Mick ( CCC) and I went ,I was planning to tube it ,but Mike has a fleet of leven boats ,never yet done Leven ,its one of those waters I have to fish !
So pottered out ,the boat brought back memories of the boats on Ardleigh ,how many years ago did Richard Conell bring these boats down to Essex !
The fishery is not huge so anchoring was the way to go ,not having gone north with loads of trout tackle ,fished the flys on the patch ,dropper a soldier muddler ,lightly nose greasedto keep it up and a red arrow on the point .
Eight or ten takes to both flys before ,I sussed their speed of taking ,after that had double figure of good rsinbows ,nothing huge ,though there are some visible monstors .
Neither Mick and I were fishing hard but this is a fishery where you could catch and release a shed load of fish !
Best of all was trying Mikes 9ft 3wts and a prototype loch rod and a 100ft head#5 specialist line (I might have arialised 50/60 ft .
As I say not my normal venue but well worth a visit if that far North !
