Hi I fished Eyebrook Saturday for the first time I lost the first only started with 5lb line soon put on 10lb they put up hell of a fight, caught 2 on a black and green booby Di3 line then things went quiet switched to floating line got 1 on black and blue Diawl Bachs was getting knocks but I was failing to connect, my boat partner caught 3 on a black and green fritz and 1 on a black and green Diawl Bachs he did try some dries but no luck.

I was there yesterday visiting the excellent adjacent tackle shop.

Anglers said that fish were in top few feet of water - using midge tips - and the fish I saw being brought in were handsome indeed!

If you get to Rockingham and take the road north out of that place it is signposted with a big brown "tourism" sign saying FLYFISHING or somesuch.

Thanks for all the tips and advice.

We had a good day, but the fishing was quite difficult. The main thing I learned was that 5x Rio powerflex (5.0 lb) is not up to the job of landing an Eyebrook rainbow. I was broken 3 times. Finally switched up to 3x (8lb). Between the breakages, I did manage to land two nice rainbows of about 2.5 lbs each. One from the Island on a small wet, and one from Hawthorns on a static sedge about 7pm. My brother also managed a nice rainbow from the boat, but three other friends all blanked.

It was a bit cold, but thankfully dry. Overcast with gentle SW wind. fairly good conditions, but not much happening on the surface. Most of the boats managed one or two, with a whopper of 8lbs recorded.

A good day nevertheless. A very social occasion with some old friends. Not too many people fishing, and we had large stretches of the bank to ourselves.

I spend most of my fishing on the riverbank, but do enjoy the odd day on a stillwater. Need to gen up on the latest flies before the next trip though.

Cheers,

wjd
