Elinor 26/8/08
Hi,
Been a member for a while now, and have posed a couple of questions but never a report..........so here goes.
Elinor yesterday afternoon. My 2nd visit and as before, the fella on duty was as helpful and informative as can be. Was told that fishing deeper than 3 feet would probably be a waste and perhaps using a 'clothes (washing) line' set up may help. So I did, with a booby on the point (green and black. I hope boobies are allowed as I forgot to ask and the website did not suggest otherwise), a small black hopper and a small brown daddy on droppers. Anyway, after a couple of swirls around my set up, got a hard take on the booby! Lovely fish of around 3lbs which I released. The next hour or 2 was similar with 2 more fish coming to the boat but both on the booby and none deep hooked thankfully. I think the swirls were fish investigating but not taking the daddy and hopper (please advise!)
This period was stationary in the boat, about 50 yards in front of pylon. As the wind dropped and clock moved round to about 6.30, I rowed up to the far end and thought I'd drift back to dock, fishing in front of the drift with just 1 daddy and 1 hopper as before. Don't know why (please advise...) but had 4 fish on the one drift which took some time with some route adjustments. Also had numerous swirls and a couple that came off, not hooked correctly. The takes on the daddy/hopper were very gentle and if my nerves allowed it, seemed better left for a second or 3 (is this usual?).
All in all great afternoon's sport at a great price (p.m ticket). I only wish I didn't live so far away from these South East midlands venues, especially this one.
Blimey; just re read this report. Just as well I don't do many, I even made myself drop off ....
Best regards all.
