I was at Bushyleaze yesterday. Blustery winds made casting awkward at times, but there were plenty of fishing showing. I had a couple on shuttlecock buzzer. The fish seemed to be following the wind and were not far out, but quite what they were taking proved a mystery to me. As I believe Lechlade is still closed till Sept. I believe the extra anglers fising Bushy is making the fish more wary.
Was still a nice day out though.

Good work little machin, did you fish letchlade or Bushy? I fished bushy a few weeks ago for the first time. I can only say how impressed with the place I was. I was bank fishing and had no wading gear so was a bit limited on some spots but still managed 3 nice rainbows totalling 9lb in weight. 1st one on a daddy goldhead and the 2nd two on the surface with a sedge.... it was a tough day to be honest, hence why I tried pretty much everything in the fly box....

I believe Letchlade has opened again now for the autumn / winter months. I am visiting family again soon in Wiltshire and have arranged with my bro to visit the fishery again. Is it worth having a bash on Letchlade, it looks quite pricey for a day ticket or should I opt for the safe option of Bushy again.

Your advice would be most welcome......... what a head scratcher eh?

tight lines

I fished Lechlade at the weekend. The water was a bit coloured after the rain, but there seemed to be plenty of fish about. Unfortunately there were a fair few of the old stock, which never seem to get through the summer very well, and while the average size of fish (6lbish) is good, it's nothing like what we usually see here. That said it's early in Lechlade's 'Season' and its the winter that sees this place at its best.

In all i had 3 rainbows all about 6lb and a big brown of about 12lb that was sadly foul-hooked after rolling over the fly several times!. he went back strongly.

Bushy, as posted above, has to be one of our best stillwaters. the fight from the bushy fish is awesome, and there are some huge resident browns in there...

That's odd BB, because I discussed that subject with the bailiff at Avon Springs only on Saturday. At last something good about the minging summer of 2008 - the cool, wet weather has meant the water temperature has never really approached the level that rainbows react badly to, and the fishery has experienced far less losses or distressed fish this year than they would expect in warmer summers.

Certainly all 4 fish in my catch on Saturday were as fit as butchers' dogs and fought very hard indeed. Taken down to the backing by a 4 pounder.... and that's on a 7 weight outfit / 6lb leader point so I was not intending to take any prisoners.

The same seems to apply at Holbury, the other local small fishery I visit quite often.
