I've fished it a few times last year on the way home, i tend to work out that way quite a lot, Aberfoyle end so on, so i have popped in for 2 or 4 hours only because it's on the way home, as Edd and the others have said the place wont win any beauty awards, you wont find breathtaking scenery or see Peregrines hovering around, it's just a hole in the ground. Staff are friendly enough.
The fly pond i do a C&R ticket and can usually entice 3 or 4 out with small buzzers, though quite a lot of the regulars will use intermediate lines and a hothead damsel, or green and black lures Viva etc.. to catch the rainbows..
The bait pond, well on my few visits i've seen kids pull out fish on powerbait (i believe) so don't see any reason why your mate wont get a few tugs.
