Default Llandegfedd

Hello one and all

Has anyone fished Llandegfedd recently? We have got a match there on Thursday and the last I heard they had an algae bloom, hopefully the weather has sorted that out.

Any information would be gratefully recieved, areas, patterns, depths, etc.

Many thanks and tight lines to all.

Not fished it but would have done last Friday had it not been for the algal bloom. Give the ranger a ring if nobody on here is able to give the latest report.

Good evening. I've fished Llandegfedd alot this season, though not in the last month because of the water quality.

Firstly, it's fantastic fishing when it's "on". Friendly staff and plenty of fish, very good prices too.

Tactics.

I've very rarely used anything other than floating or Intermediate lines. I've been using several Scottish wet flies this season and had terrific sport.

Kate Mclarens, Hoppers, Doobries and anything black. If the fishing gets a bit slow, try a booby on the top dropper, with a couple of nymphs and pull them back. Blobs work too. I had fantastic sport in June/July on dries. A size 12 Para Adams was lethal and the trout in Llandeg' fight like hell. You may be lucky and see a few Daddies on the water. Fish with a couple of daddies, 4ft apart and they seem to bring fish up.

There are very heavy caenis hatches at Llandeg' and the fish will really go for them. I've usually managed to winkle a few out on the Para Adams.

Where to fish

As you stand on the boat dock look right as far as you can see, toward a couple of large bays. I have had the majority of my fish from these bays. Short drifts are the order of the day, until you locate fish, then motor back up and go through the shoal again. I've never known a place like Llandeg' for the fish being in very tight shoals. If you find fish, mark them and try and be as accurate as you can and replicate the same drift. Fifty metres one way or the other can mean you missing the shoals. The fish are ferocious fighters and I wouldn't advise you to go under 8lb for nymphs and 10lb if your pulling.

I'v never done any good around the dam area, or the bay opposite the lodge. Head up to your right and fish the bays at the head of the reservoir. The water is pretty shallow and fish right up to the shore if you can.

August is a difficult month wherever you fish, so if you don't do vey well, don't knock the fishery, come back in September or next season and you'll see what a good fishery it is.

Tight lines and let us know how you get on.

Johnny
