Default Carron Dam

I had an evening with Cumbrian Flyfisher last night. We managed just 4 browns and a Powen. It was a strange night with the boat often drifting of the drift as the wind tried to change direction, then sometimes it would all but dissapear! I started out with a team of dries and the 1st drifted produced a 3/4lb brown to a black hopper it took a while before I managed to conect with the next fish after a few more rises resulting in missed chances and 1 or 2 dropped fish, then a change to a blae n black, greenwells and a banton midge on the point. I had some good sport with smaller fish and as the usual missed fish. We then motered down to an area near the jetty on the north shore where Cumbrian put the icing on the cake his powen. i popped a daddy on for a bit fun and managed to rise a few but unfortunately not the Bow I was looking for, to test my Bloke. A good night with good crack from a good boat partner, in difficult conditions. Cheers mate

Here are a few photos from last night.

hope you guys had a good day. I couldnt buy a broonie on Monday when I was up. Everything I hooked was a rainbow. Just a wee note on the powan.......I dont think they are supposed to be taken from the water, much less handled, due to the protection order (or something like that) on them. Only in the dam and Lomond as far as I know. Not trying to put a damper on things

Thats why it was returned mate! I believe that the dam and the lomond are the only waters with them.

I had a comedy night on Friday night. Got up there and went to set my rod up. Top two inches were missing. This is my spare rod as my good one is in getting fixed(the ring stripping guide ceramic broke). Fortunately I was able to borrow a wee four piece number from Eeky. I set sail for Bin Bay. Got up there went to sort a fankle at the top of the rod and the rod snapped in two at one of the joins when I was moving it behind me I tried to repair it and got a cast out of it and it fell to bits again. As I was drifting and trying to sort out the mess I caught a troot. Those wee broonys put up a fair fight when you only have 3 foot of rod. I was standing there waving the rod about like a cross between Harry Potter and Frank Spencer.

Motored back down to the jetty and tried to pay for the rod. Eeky was having none of it and blamed the last person he had loaned it to. I then got a loan of Frazer's rod. Started back and had a few casts just off the jetty. Landed a nice Rainbow after about 10 minutes. I then headed back up to the Bin Bay had a bit of a slog to start with but spotted a fish topping and tailing, covered it and it took. I was really pleased with that one as it was pouring down at the time. Had another two drifting back down on the road shore. One in near darkness. Four cracking rainbows.

In short a great night but the comedy value of the broken rods made it more memorable. Much better than the night at work I was meant to have did.

Incidentally a guy had a slab of just under 12 pounds. Nice fish.
