Default Carron Valley

Going to be fishing Carron Valley on Saturday for first time and looking for any tips. Josh and I will be fishing from the bank and William (McAllister on forum) and Davie will be in boat. Any help would be appreciated.

Post Carron

Hi Shanksi.............fished Carron on Friday and Saturday.............blanked Friday in my national semi and had 2 on saturday.............

there seems to be a a few fish over the far shore almost straight across from where the boats come out.........you`ll see a bed of weed , one of the guys on our club trip had 5 from that area....... Top dam has a few fish at it i got a couple on buzzers there on Saturday.....and i think 2 guys had 5 there on friday again fishing buzzers

The bay before you get to gull island has a few fish one of our guys had 4 there on saturday.........

small black flies on slow intermediates or floaters seems to be working, buzzers and nymphs.......pulling just not working at the moment just watch if your out in the boat the loch is very low and there are rocks appearing everywhere

i just found it a struggle to find a few fish (thats me not the Lochs fault)

anyway hope this helps

hi was up there tonight it was hard going i can tell you this is only the third time we have fished it so we still have alot to learn
caught two bows which were quite deep down on long droppers both on green/black buzzer and a handfull off small broonies around the 10-12oz mark
on a black gnat.... boat partner colin had three bows biggest 2.5lb and a 1.5lb broonie on a black sedge we fished burnhouse and carron bay fish were rising everywhere but hard to connect there was a good broonie caught at 3lb from opposite the boat moorings but apart from that very uneventfull apart from the osprey which caught quite a few fish very spectacular to watch

Hope i'm not being too critical! But from your post that's 5 rainbows and 6 brownies to the boat on an evening session, thats not a bad catch in my opinion. If thats hard going you must get some catches on the good days. Also 10-12oz brownies( more than likely wild fish ) is to me a good fish.

Hope your next visit is more prolific

true it wasnt to bad but for 5 1/2 fishing in the wet we had to work for it
the wild broonies were good sport though with fantastic aerobatics {all returned i might add} what i was meaning it would be good to latch onto a big wild broonie or a bigger rainbow i,ts a big water to cover but very very rewarding and we will be up there fishing for most of the season
by the way with this being a wild broonie water is there a closed season

CF, there is a closed season at the moment. I dont know if Fraser and Eeky are planning to alter that with more and more rainbows going in or if it is forced on them. Anyway you were out in typical June/July weather the other day and you want to gamble with the winter conditions up there!

The dam has got to be the fairest test of fishing on any big water in the country just now. Get it right and you are rewarded, get it wrong and its a sair shift. Hopefully its fair to me on Monday.

Was up the Dam today. I had 3 fish, dropped a couple and had some more offers which I couldnt convert. There were plenty fish showing, especially some of the smaller broonies on the far side from the jetty, leaving the water like missiles. All the fish i had were rainbows which had been in the water some time with good growth on the fins etc, and no flabby bellies. The returns book showed some good catches at the weekend including a 5 1/4 lb brown by one of the Scottish youth team who were up practicing. Enjoyed my day out and will be back shortly.
