"Willie the Ghillie
Week Ending 22nd June 2008
Strong winds again last week put paid to the fishing some of the time. When the wind did ease, fish could be taken with buzzers and as Caroline Hamilton on a flying visit from Ireland – proved, dries also worked, Caroline had a beautiful fish at just on 4lbs on dries fishing the Brock’s Hole at the Sluices.
Competitor’s fishing on a S.A.N.A. semi final on Friday had a really difficult day – strong westerly and bright sun, but did manage a result, top qualifier was;
G Fleming – Johnstone 4 fish 8lb 14oz
2nd A Smith – Kinross 4 fish 7lb 3oz
3rd I Wilson – Clatto and Stratheden 2 fish 5lb 3oz
4th B McKenzie – Househillmuir 2 fish 4lb 11oz
and the final place was taken by Paul Sharp – Glen 2 fish 2lb 15oz
Water temperature is 16.4 ºC and the clarity this week is at 3.6 meters. Weed growth is now prolific in many parts of the Loch – great to see!
Best areas – Carden Bay, Green Isle to Old Manse, North of Castle Island (open water), Reed Bower, Brocks Hole and Paddy’s Point.
As mentioned buzzers and when conditions suit dries will work, but traditionals, fished deep is still probably the No1 method.
Finally I would like to thank the anglers who are returning, - sometimes very big trout as such Sandy Robertson from Cupar did last week (estimated at 4 ½ lbs)! As most anglers know there is NO limit on catches at Loch Leven – pre rainbow days when Loch Leven was naturally stocked there was not a limit, that said we do appreciate that many anglers are more comfortable returning at least part of their catch and we are certainly happy with this."
