Was there on wednesday, from about 3pm through to dusk
I had been about a half dozen times previously and blanked every time..the little browns are too damn quick!
but this time everything seemed right..the wind down the valley made both banks fishable with good wind lanes of points...
any wets all the way still at a place like this..bibio, kate mclaren, black spider or black pennel
I found quick pulls in the ripple brought lots of aggressive follows and takes..but the fish are lightning quick and I had plenty on and off within seconds
in the end though the conditions proved to good to fail and my reactions speeded up..managed 4 in the net and released and took a fish of about a pound for my tea...all the fish I released were 8-10 inches and had many spots..the fish I took was much less spotted and wasnt entirely fin perfect so I took it as I suspected it was one of the small amount of stocked browns they put in.
its a wonderful place and because of its upland setting and dark waters it reminds me very much of a scottish lochan..and I would fish it as such
lots of bird life up there as well this time of year
water level was well down though..but a glorious evenings fishing with a huuuge spinner hatch about 8pm
and all for 10 quid for a full day!
