I have had success with the hang as you described! I have another question. I read Bob Church, Reservoir Trout Fishing and he describes catching fish on an arc or curve created by the motion of the boat. Some of my competition friends swear this is a proven tactic. However, I am struggling. When I was doing well on the hang I tried this curve when the boat was sliding away from my end. My flies were coming up away from the boat in an arc and I had no success with this tactic. Any comments or suggestion. Thanks

first'ly,well done on the hang.secondly you have to be carefull on the arc if fishing in a comp as your flies must not pass an imaginary line through the middle of the boat.(unless casting to a rising fish)
but if pleasure fishing.cast sidways out of the boat and let your line form an arc behind you, then start retrieving, fish will often hit as the arc in the line straightens out.again best with sinking lines. this is a minor tactic compaired to the 'hang'
