Default Pantyreos

Thought i'd start a thread to let people know how Pantyreos was fishing. Went up today for a couple of hours and started off at the Dam end. Fish rising every now and again, theres so much fly life on the water it has to be seen to be believed. Encounterd sedge and Mayflies!! (never encountered these little beasties before but their huge!!) Not in huge numbers but it seemed the fish were taking emergers as they were just braking the surface, typical dorsal fin and tail rise. Managed 3 and lost one but the fish are in tip top condition, really hard fighting. Didnt manage to stay until late evening but ive been reliably informed that this is starting to produce the magical evening rise. Fishery reports seem to be word of mouth only so this should help people to know if its worth the trip.

Hiya welshlynx, ive not fished this water for quite a few years now, im going back to the days when it was controlled by WWA. but your so right about the fly life in aoth Pantyreos and top and bottom ponds of ynysyfro, the sedge life here has to be seen to be believed, the caddis here are absolutley huge !!. Is Pantyreos now controlled by the newport fly fishing club?, i would love to visit it again , it has to be one of the prettiest waters ive ever visited, is it stocked now are is it just natural brown trout? i must sort a date out and get up there, tight lines.........chris.

Hi welshlynx, I'm interested too. To be honest, I thought it was closed to fishing now as I hadn't heard anything about it for such a long time. Give us some details about whose running it, and whether it's all wild browns or if they've stocked some rainbows too. It's been many years since I was there but I'd love to spend an evening up there this summer.
