Default Felix Farm

Visited Felix Farm last night. I was the only one and considering the wonderful weather probably not a surprise. I didn't see a single rise and even fishing deep, nothing at all.

They have good policy though, if you catch nothing you can erturn for a base rate of £10, rather than lose all your cash. Very friendly Gillie by the way.

Main point was that I saw mayfly, not many but they were coming off in the evening. Anyone fished here regularly and have some winning strategies, bank or boat?

Took a beginner there this afternoon (his first ever try with the fly).

Wind was making it very difficult for him, changing direction and strength every couple of minutes, so took him out in a boat and anchored on a buoy near the centre.

Fished dark coloured boobies on a DI5 with a 3 foot leader and took 6 between us in about 3 hours fishing right on the bottom and almost static. Nice fit fish all around the 2.5 lb mark.

Don't usually resort to the boobies, but I think they helped recruit a newbie to fluff chucking .

Also saw a nice mayfly hatch when we came back to the lodge, but the fish weren't interested in them at all.

Cheers,

Bill.

Mmm, that was what the Gillie told me. He had never caught a fish on a mayfly, but he had off of mayfly pupae

Another interesting fact.........they apparently netted over 250lb of Rudd the day before, which I understand went to a lake in Wales.........

I caught a fresh water muscle when I was nymphing on the bottom if that counts!

Me too, there are some lovely 2lb plus fish that will readily take a small dry.

Good news though, is that they didn't get close to clearing them all out. I am sure that some of the larger wilier ones would have got into the reed beds and avoided the net too .

Apparently they only netted the margins.

And when they surveyed the water a few weeks before, apparently they found that some of the ditches in the wood (on the motorway side) are also full of Rudd......though I've never noticed them.

Cheers,
