Default Is Avington worht the money??

I have not been to Avington for a couple of years now. The last time I left disappointed at the stock.

I hear there have been some changes not only to the pricing structure but the management as well?

Has it improved at all, is it worth £75 for four fish?

If you are looking for doubles then Lechlade is the best value at the moment. Followed by Dever and Chalk Springs of those sort of waters in the South. Although my own favourite is still Avon Springs for that kind of fishing.

Thanks Loopy

I have visited them all on my travels in the past, Avon Springs in the evening was two fish in two casts, so cant really comment. Dever a long time ago had a good day overall especially on the top lake nearer the road. I was very disappointed in Chalk Springs one fish was well under weight and the chap in the "clubhouse" didn't want to know.

My friend and I went to Lechlade around a year ago in this weather there was a corporate do on and what a pain they were, laughing shouting messing around not what you want really and to cap it all we both blanked as well as did the majority of the people there.

Sounds like I am moaning, but when I pay a lot of money I expect good fish and good company, not necessarily to catch even at those prices of course.

Try Jubilee near Durham this is equidistant for me as Dever/Avington is. It's much cheaper well looked after good big fish and just as picturesque.

best place in the country to catch big fish I would say is Lechlade, wouldnt bother too much with the likes of Dever and Avington gone down hill rapidly in recent years, Chalk springs is a great place plenty of good fish and excellent VFM also look at willow lake down at Narborough trout and coarse lakes as well as Pennine

For a moment there I thought you said £75 for a fish limit I moan about £11 C+R

If you want big fish you could have a look at Pennine:

Not for me but its stuffed with doubles.

I can't think of a catch and kill water that IS good value, in my view. Potentially thirty quid + for an hour's fishing.

Do not bother with Avington, still a brilliant venue but the fish stocks are disgusting for the money charged. The waters seem to be full of fish in the 3lb to 4lb range with possibly one double in each lake - which is dizzy through everyone chasing after it....... I've had quite a few days there and you used to see a good range of fish with the average about 6lb, but sadly these days have gone. As others have said try Lechlade which has a great head of fish, although this water normally goes off after mid-day or when its too hot. One of my favourite waters is Avon Springs, which offers good fishing, a chance of a large fish and at a reasonable price - not forgetting the stretch of river also available.

Why would anyone want to pay money, let alone £75, to fish for half tame, high protein reared cattle??
