Default Brenig

Hi Fished Brenig Bank Holiday Monday, sign on car park warned of algie bloom, really struggled from the bank went all round reservoir, but no one was catching, eventually got one fish in the corner between the Visitor centre and the dam, 1,1/2lb stockie, but had to wade through the bloom ( not very nice! ).

One thing I did notice there were only around 20 people fishing the bank, and at most 10 boats out, on a bank holiday with fine weather!!!?, perhaphs some people know more than than they are letting on regards stocking!!

I have fished Brenig over the last 8 years, and every year follows the same catch return, good for the first 2 weeks of the season then goes very hard, but funnily enough, it again goes good on the day of big competitions? do they think we are stupid!!

I will now be giving Brenig a miss except on the day of competitions, as to pay £17.00 and struggle to catch is a bit much!!

Regards all

Dave

Hi Baldie

Yes the fishing is always cyclic, good early and late season and not so good inbetween. Noticed the algae up there a month ago. Surprised to see it at all and so early on.
A big pike was caught on dryfly last weekend in the arm, and lot of fish were moving there.
Fine weather is not good usually good for fishing. Better to come back in the evening - I think a lot of locals appear at nantglyn later on.
Boats would do better as you can cover much more water and are mobile. Last year, the bank was the place to be, if the fish were any further up the bank they'd have tails and ears..
Official word is that they are stocking more and larger fish.

Neil.
PS I can blank with the best of them - its very humbling...

Well said Neil the fish last season were right on the bank and from what i saw the bankies on the nant glyn and the ringcarn always seemed to be catching from a boat anglers view it was even more anoying as you tried to keep away from the bankies but you still needed to be close in

Default Tough Day at Brenig

Just back from Brenig, tough day, no sign of bloom, no boats on the water?
Fished the Nant Glyn bank in a cold South Easterly wind. The only angler catching fish used a sinking line static with a Booby. It was like watching a course angler? I think the problem was the cold wind not water condition.

Going to Brenig on saturday so hopefully it will pick up and fish well!
Heard today on the grapevine that lot of fish rising along hafod lom woods and fish along mouth of brenig arm to north end island. I'll put a report up how we get on and fingers crossed it will be a positive one.

Cheers Red diawl, just got back from Brenig not the best conditions with a 20 mph north easterly wind and bright sun all day!
Started on the hafod lom woods and worked along them and through tower bay and the dam and really struggled finding a couple of small stockie pods on the woods but kept moving expecting to find fish especially with the wind direction along the dam wall and tower but very quiet. In the afternoon we went up to the north end island and found quite a few fish yet again tight to the shore literally last cast on to the shore in no more than four foot of water considering the conditions and good clarity of the water and we found it the same when the bank bends round into the brenig arm again drifting off the bank in this area once you had gone 15 yards off the bank you were wasting your time. It will be interesting to see if they stay this close to the shore again all year. Best methods for us were static corms or glues on midge tip or ghost tip. The only other place we saw fishing well was the centre shore although we struggled there the bank anglers were catching steady. hope you had a good day on the dog.
