Default Glencorse and Loganlea Reservoirs

I had a spare hour last week and decide to drive up and have a look at both these waters as I have never fished either before despite living close by.

Stopped at Glencorse (Dooks Fisheries) and had a walk around. Three boats out, nobody in the "howf" to speak to. No top water activity at all, but a lovely, lovely looking place. Really inviting.

Back in the car to go on to Loganlea.........my god, the road past here is worse than the track leading into Markle (and that's a comparison you don't want!) Got to a cattle grid at the end of Glencorse reservoir ....which was collapsed! I could probably have taken it at speed...but new car, no way I was going to chance anything in this remote spot. So I didn't get to see Loganlea.
Does anyone know if there is another way into there? Are there plans to upgrade the road at all? From what I seen, It really whet my whistle to get to Glencorse fishing, but access to Loganlea from there was horrendous.

No need to go any further than Glencorse anyway in my opinion Colin,I think it is by far the nicest of the two reservoirs to fish.....and the fishing is excellent as well....

I fished Loganlea a few times last year, thought it was a great water. The road up to Loganlea was in a bad way the times we fished there but i was under the impression it had been repaired. There is no other road up to fishery that i`m aware of,i`m sure the road past fishery comes to a dead end just after the shallow end of the loch.Have you tried phoning Loganlea?

Thanks for the info lads.
Sounds like Glencorse is the one to go for.
What's the situation with the boats? Are there anchors, can you hire an electric motor?

Hi Allnips -

No anchoring, I think (half of the area is very deep anyway) .... and they don't hire outboards. You can take your own electric outboard though. Good quality boats

Prices are very reasonable, especially for C & R. Fish are good quality too.

Good luck !!

Hi Allnips there is no anchors, and you cant hire an electric moter, although you can ask the fishery manager Goerge Fairly (a good guy) he can be contated on 07050325803 give him a call.

Hi!
i fished loganlea last sunday only paid for 4 hours C&R but and there was no body catching for an hour or so but loads of people coming of the boats with their limit.Me and my friend decided to go to the top of the lake and straight away some one hooked a decent rainbow on a sedge.i knew they floated so i decided to put a floating fry on and straight as it hit the water a fish came up for it ands missed, so i recasted and BANG! straight away i hooked it then played it out and released it. Two casts later BANG! again and i got another rainbow of about 4lb and released it. Soon after that i had attracted a crowd and lots of people were asking what fly i was using and i said a yellow and pink thing because i didn't know the name of it i only found that out when i showed the fishery owner.
Over all a good fishery and some nice fish in the water.

Loganlea is the better of the two with some great fishing on buzzers and dry fly , The high bank on the roadside is not a problem even with a full line out and some quality trout hug that high bank

The boat anglers fair much better but the top end holds hoards of trout and with only 2 blanks in my last 27 visits.

Dooks is also a great fishery as I have never had a bad day on it , I fish catch and release and some days returning 10 or 12 trout.

Quill buzzers are very very good on dooks for some reason.

I prefer loganlea but thats personal opinion.
