Gailey Trout - 30+ bag from a float tube.
See below a report i send to our local newspapers about Gailey
Last year we where sun bathing in 70 degree sunshine, compared to a bitter 11 degrees last weekend, but with improving spring temperatures and increased fly life Gailey trout fishery should "fish it's head off" Gailey has already been stocked with more than 2000 trout over the last 8 weeks including rainbow, brown and blue trout and for the first time stocked with Golden and Tiger trout and even arctic char.
Local angler Roger Abnett spent last Sunday fishing from a float tube catching an incredible 30+ bag of rainbow and blue trout plus 2 plump brown trout deceived by a black buzzer fished very slowly in the shallows. Season ticket holder Len Beckley had another superb days fishing landing 17 superb fish including 2 browns on dry flies (both Roger and Len returned all the fish they caught). Numerous other 20+ catches have also been recorded over the past few weeks.
On warmer days hatches of buzzers have started, with black and claret accounting for many fish. Best method, floating line with leaded damsel on the point with black or claret buzzer on a dropper with a slow figure of eight retrieve.
Any fishermen interested in a season ticket they are available for just £350 for the whole year, you can also have a day ticket at Gailey from only £15 with boats from £10. For details contact Gailey trout fishery. Gailey Lea, (off Main A5, 800 yards Jct 12 M6) near Cannock. 01785 715848
