Dear Colin,
Firstly, we wish you a very Happy New Year from all of us at Meon Springs.
Secondly, to clarify an error in our last update - The Macmillan Day is Thursday 17th May 2012.
We are open all over the New Year Holiday.
First Tuesday
Our next First Tuesday meeting is on Tuesday 3rd January 2012. On this day, we are providing mince pies and mulled wine from 11.30am and holding a short meeting at 1pm to listen to your views and throw a few ideas around to help us help you enjoy Meon Springs even more.
On the Lakes.
Good water flow is making the fish lively, although the recent rain has murked it up a little. Notwithstanding that, fishing this past week has been excellent.
Top flies this week have been cats whisker, damsel, red and black buzzers. Fritzes are also doing well.
Small nymphs are proving deadly on Meon Beat (C&R), with diawl bachs and PTNs, with a hint of red in the dressing.
Please note, we now have a Top Fly Blackboard that gets updated daily. When you arrive, it is worth taking a look.
Fishing Tip
How to make 2012 your best fishing year ever.....
Now, you may have been fishing for a very long time, or you may be a complete novice, still floundering around for support and advice. Whatever your personal situation, you will no doubt want to have more fun and continue improving your fishing experience.
So, as you enter the New Year, take a step back to reflect on where you are at and what you really want from your fishing.
It may be that improving your knowledge and skills is the most important thing for you. In which case - find the best advice you can and get out there and go fishing.
It could be that your tackle is due an upgrade - in which case, get down the tackle shop (or talk to Roger) and sort it out.
However, It may be that you have come to a point, where you are finding the sport somewhat repetitive and you are losing the enthusiasm that you once had for it. This is the time for a more creative solution.
If you like helping people, this year could be a time to get involved in a club that is getting novices into the sport.
If you regularly fish just one water - why not try somewhere new.
Is your main forte with a lure. If so, invest in some nymphs and dry flies and experience a completely different type of fishing.
If you don't think you can fish Catch and Release - get some help to make the experience fun and enjoyable.
My point is, if you want to make 2012 an even better fishing year than before, step back, reflect, set a few goals then go fishing.....
