Toft Newton
I fished Toft yesterday and was impressed with the quality of the staff, the fish and the fishing.
After chatting to the owner Jason Foster he pointed me in the direction of the fish and on methods. The wind was quite blustery at first and I started on floating line with a montana, diawl bach and black buzzer. I joined at the downwind end of the row of angler fishing. Rods three anglers up from me were bent so i thought we're quids in. The wind was quite strong where I was and the floating line was coming round too fast. I had three offers and missed them all because of the bow in the line. I switched to an intermediate with a montanta and cats whisker. After three offers I began to hit fish regularly, most on the Cat. I had 7 and lost twice as many, losing one really good fish which took me well out to the backing before swimming back towards me before I could keep the line tight. He came off then came a horrendous hail storm with gale force winds. One guy on a float tube just gave in and beached himself. I stopped for lunch with Jason providing fee coffee or tea. I also swapped a stockie for a home smoked trout (which i will pass verdict on later). After lunch the wind dropped a bit and on went the floater again. This was much better fishing and I added another 5 with a lot of bumps, plucks and pulls, mainly on the diawl bach before I called it a day at 5 o'clock. What a good day out, fishing was consistent throughout the day, action always on hand and the fish count could have been triple based on number of offers and lost fish.
Highly recommended. Only negative was the scenic value as you don't really have any on a concrete bowl.
I will be back as the fish love to look upwards from what I saw. Even with the weather being cold and windy there were a few fish on top showing.
