Default Draycote

I went for a walk round Draycote yesterday, and there was the biggest hatch of buzzers iv'e ever seen, all the cyclists/walkers were complaining about it.but the ducks /coots/ wagtails/gulls were having a feast.but not much trout activity.
ther'e were big black, medium yellow, and small olive, buzzers.i'll try and download a couple of photos.

Default Buzzers

Hi Jim

I had the same experience a couple of weeks ago at Blithfield Ressie, not a million miles away from Draycote.
Three of us couldn't catch on the buzzers though, no matter how hard we tried, bloody frustrating .

Default Blithfield Reservoir

Hi Jim

Take a look at this link below

http://www.blithfield.com/anglers/me...ip_permits.htm

My DCAC membership as a few rods there this year and I was very impressed with the place.

I'm certainly planning to give it a go now day ticket is available - have heard great reports and £20 for an 8 limit is good value. Driven past it plenty of times en route to Burton and always looked whistfully, so it'll be nice to wet a line there at long last

your right i understand that rod (a local and no pun intended) took them fishing the rudder with large tubes over the main basin. He has a mean set up and awesome fishfinder and usually comes in with a large bag.

Had two scottish buys in the shop on Saturday afternoon asking for tube flies for trout as they were the only things that appeared to be catching fish on Draycote.

Default tubing

I was introduced to tubing on Rutland many many years ago by Stan who ran the old school house and tied the tubes for the Rutland shop. On a cold wind swept day in Sept or Oct it can be good fun but lets not kid each other, its not as skillful as others methods of fly fishing.

Sure there are tweaks to it and yes I am sure a good rudder angler would beat me in a rudder match but its too close to trawling for my liking and so for me it becomes a method of last resort although I confess I would like to use a lead core line to rudder on Grafham for the zander one or twice a year but we all know thats a no no.

If some can explain to my why you can rudder on some AWA waters on not on Grafham I would be interested to hear your views.

oh now thats a real can of worms m8 - the offical reason as to why ruddering on grafham is banned is due apprently to concerns over the risk of the rudder potentially damaging the boats - say if a boat were to get beached with the rudder attached. About 20 yrs ago 1 boat did indeed get beached with rudder attached and this is still used as the No.1 reason as to why they are banned.

Ok so enough of the B/S the real reason lies solely down to some of the ancient fossils who hold power in the GWFFA - they have hold of Grafham water's balls so tight that if they squeeze GW asks how high. Senior members of GWFFA do not consider ruddering fly fishing and as a result willl not allow GW to alter its rules in accordance with pitsford and rutland.

FYI the ban was "lifted" but only lasted 3 days many years ago - the reason? Steve Parton (top bloke) and a boat partner went ruddering on grafham and ended up with a load of larrge Zander and a couple of 9-10lb browns not to mention a wheelbarrow full of very large pike (which they had been asked to kill by the warden of the day should they catch any). As they pulled their boat into the jetty at the end of the day who should see them but a couple of senior GWFFA members who immediately told GW to re-introduce the ban as ruddering catches too many fish and we cant allow that can we? From that day onwards the ban has remained inplace.

Until these fossils either retire or pop their clogs the chances of rule change on this issue are zero
