Ravensthorpe 8th April
We had intended to fish Pitsford off the bank but when we got there it was flat calm and brilliant sun, and the forecast said it wouldn't cloud over until lunchtime, so we drove over to Ravo and had a boat.A breeze picked up by 9.30 and to my surprise we had decent cloud cover shortly (bet Pitsford fished its head off!). We anchored in 12 ft of water between the island and the dam, fishing the bung with buzzers and d.b's.Sport was fairly slow but I had four fish by noon, when the breeze picked up (cold) and we had better cloud cover.Bored of watching sight yarn we motored over to the two pontoons by the dam and fished right into the bank, a 15 ft leader with cruncher on point and two small d.b's on the droppers.A few decent size buzzers were coming off and we soon had fish, all on the droppers, the top getting the most.By 2 o'clock it slowed down so we moved out to deeper water and I continued with the bung. They were really pulling now, nearly all on the top dropper, fished four feet under the yarn.I ended up with eighteen fish, including a ten and a four and a half pounder. The other three boats appeared to be doing well also, it surprises me it never gets that busy.
They are currently fixing large sausage like bales of barley straw in front of the draw off tower, to kill the algae which builds up in warmer water and makes problems for the treatment works. The downside is that quite a large area (200 x 75m ?) in front of the dam will be buoyed off, though I think you will still be able to get between the bales and the dam wall.We shall see...
